Things I Shall Do By Amanda on December 8, 2008 7:27 AM | Permalink | Comments (9) | TrackBacks (0)
As Zoe snarkily pointed out in comments, now I have these tickets all I have to do now is not forget the show is on. True, I have only really done that once this year but I have already committed to two different parties next Saturday night so such muck ups are never far from happening. So, I made a list of things I am doing so I can obsessively check it every day for the next two months to reassure myself.
December 10th -- Premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, "include pre-screening drinks and an introduction to the film by Cate Blanchett. Proceeds raised will go to the STC Foundation to support Sydney Theatre Company's Education and Artform Development programs."
December 27 -- Public Enemy @ The Metro
Not doing any of the music things at the Sydney fest this time, although Sharon Jones IS great, but I have signed up for some fancy schmancy theatre:
January 17 -- The War of the Roses Parts 1 and 2 It goes for eight hours!!
January 24 -- Ivanov "Budapest's Katona József Theatre, in their acclaimed production of Chekhov's early masterpiece." In Hungarian, with surtitles. Nem beszélek magyarul.
January 28 -- Leonard Cohen @ Sydney Ent Cent
February 1 -- Leonard Cohen @ Bowral
February 20 -- Chick Corea and John McLaughlin @ the Opera House
March 12 -- Old Crow Medicine Show @ The Metro
April 6 -- Lucinda Williams @ the Enmore

Clearly it will take a nation of millions to hold you back - or pay off your credit card.

Simple pleasures in an otherwise monkish lifestyle ...

Hi from the UK. I got here via 8tracks. I've ben lurking for a while and I thought it was about time I said hello. Really enjoying the blog.
I missed Leonard Cohen in London, though an Aussie friend went (paid £120 for her ticket and said he was worth every penny). For me, he's likely to be one who got away (along with Joni Mitchell - should have seen her when I had the chance)
I'm going to see Jason Townes Earle in January on your recommendation, though I probably would have gone anyway. He's supporting Kathy Mattea.
Lucinda Williams! I'm jealous! I've seen her twice in London at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. You are in for a treat!

I'm still trying to get the hang of this - you will probably find varations on the same message all over the show (I just read your note about the spam filter...) Sorry!

I'm heading off to see "The Pig Iron People" this weekend. A rare foray for both The Beloved and I to the theatre. Rare only in that it is hard to get down to Sydney now. And the cricket season makes it worse.
Lizotte's is the best bet for music on the Coast but at this stage, no-one I can see that I really want to go and see. Though I'd say Bob and Jeff will do the yearly run first half of 2009.
It is a great venue with great food. Especially if you book early and get a table right next to the stage.

Thanks Andre. if you have seen Lucinda twice already, I don't think you get to be jealous. ;-) We have been waiting for years.
Shaun, did you see that the new edn of The Monthly has an ACDC review by Robert Forster?
Jon Cleary is on at Lizotte's and he would be great, although rather exxy. Still tossing up seeing him in Sydney. Also Kane Welch Kaplin and Ruthie Foster.

Yes, I did Amanda. Not a bad review. But I was a little perplexed by the songs he thought were good compared to my picks (though there was some overlap)
Each to their own and all that.
