Relaxin' With the Miles Davis Quintet
Snake Farm by Ray Wylie Hubbard
Grooving Out of Life by Hopetoun Lewis
Keep Me in Mind by Miriam Makeba
An instant classic of my collection. From 1970, blends African rhythms with some rich soul/funk sounds and Swahili (um, I assume?) with American pop covers. A pefectly formed album.
Where is Love? by Irene Kral
Diggers' Delight: 10 International Psychedelic Freakouts, 1970-1975 by Various Artists
Crossing the Field by Jenny Scheinman
Scheinman put out two albums this year, this one which is jazzy fusion instrumentals and a country-folk vocals one which I don't have yet. THIS ONE is brilliant. Some it sounds like a Bernard Hermann soundtrack meets ... PIxar or something. Very listenable and quite brilliant.
Museum of the African Diaspora Suite by Babatunde Lea, Greg Landau, and John Greenham
I dl'd it immediately because I love the other Babtunde Lea stuff here and was surprised and inspired by it. Four long tracks of, appropriately enough, collages of African diaspora music. From traditional African chants through to Caribbean music, Civil Rights songs, hip hop, jazz and all manner of other things in one eclectic yet narratively compelling soundscape. Its the kind of thing that can end up sounding slapped together for a cheap point but these guys are all fabulous composers and musicians so it.

I've been meaning to thank you for posting about Babatunde Lea. He's one of my favourite recent discoveries.
Ming: what a brilliant album.

I have some Abdullah Ibrahim on my Saved for Later list (although that's about 800 albums long) because FXH recommended him to me before. I saw a doco on him on Fox a while back too.
