I volunteered to roadtest the new beta 8tracks uploader and it's the bees knees. So simple is it, I knocked up three playlists just now to try it out. You can listen embedded here or go to the page at 8tracks by clicking the titles.

Old Time Gospel:

Indian Bottom Association; Washington Phillips; Wynona Carr; Sam Cooke; Carrie Smith; Horton Barker; Old Regular Baptists; Sister Rosetta Tharpe; Rev. F. W McGee; Rev. Sister Mary Nelson; Mavis Staples.

Soul Jazz (mostly):

Babatunde Lea; Spanky Wilson and the Quantic Soul Orchestra; Jazz Co-Op; Shirley Scott; David Murray Black Saint Quartet w/ Cassandra Wilson; Cannonball Adderley; Jimmy McGriff & Groove Holmes; Sun Ra; Marlena Shaw; Ray Brown Trio; King Curtis; Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis;Robert Rodriguez, Ed Calle And Steve Turre.

These are great mixes, thanks. 8 tracks seems like a better platform than Muxtape. How reliable is the uploading? Muxtape only worked about half the time for me.

Thanks, Tim. Yeah, 8tracks is better than Muxtape. Partly I think because Muxtape was a scrappy little indie thing which was clearly mostly illegal --- and they knew it -- whereas 8tracks is making a concerted effort to be a legal and legit business, conforming to the rules for internet radio etc. So there's much more incentive to innovate and introduce extra non-buggy features. I imagine some ad supported or subscription aspects are in their future, which is cool with me.

I've had no real problems with 8tracks uploading, but I didn't have any major probs with Muxtape either. Occaisionally when I play back my own mixes I get some songs twice and others not at all. That's the only prob I've had. This new uploader is wonderful, but its in beta so not generally available. Its only for Mac at this point so if you are One of The Cupertino Cult you can get one to try out. There's a link to contact them on the homepage. Make a playlist in iTunes (supports AAC which Muxy did not), drag and drop int the uploader and ... thats it really.

The regular uploading process has one big advantage over Muxtape which is you can line up multiple uploads and let it go, but with Muxy you had to do one at a time.
