What do I do now? By

The following is mostly a plea to Zoe on account of her awesome new food blog.

I bought this.

What do I do now?

OK sure I should have gone to my local market and bought fresh from the source (no excuse, after all these markets The Other Andrew went to are in my suburb) but honestly as far as wholesome food purchases go I must take whatever impulse purchasing throws my way. And I was in Woolies to buy an extension cord for this (these purchases are related, probably). Before you judge, walk a food mile in my shoes. This was the most unappetising--->healthiest choice I could find.

Tell me what to do with them!

Make soup! First of all healthy can be very appetising. Second, soup need not be healthy at all. Depends what you feel like.

And no need to go slagging yourself off for lack of food purity - you are a million miles ahead already because you are cooking from fresh ingredients.

So it appears you have some carrots, an onion, some parsnip a swede, and a couple of spuds. Won't be needing the spuds.

Cut all the rest up into little cubes, about 1 cm square, and fry them a little in some olive oil or whatever is handy. This caramelises the veg a little bit and makes your soup sweeter and yummier. If you're a meat lover, you can also add some similarly chopped up bacon, a bacon bone, or wait for the chorizo option (my preference). Chuck in a can of tomatoes (grab them to pulverise if they're whole tomatoes) and a can of chick peas (kidney beans, cannelli beans or whatever you have). Top up with a litre or so of water and get on the treadmill. Slice up a chorizo and fry it so it's got a bit of colour and has released some oil. Then pour the chorizo and oil into the pot and let it all simmer away a bit. When it's all soupy and delicious, pour a bowl, add some chopped green stuff (parsley or dill is tops) and because you have been virtuous, finely grate some delicious cheese on top. Make a piece of toast, pour a glass of red and eat it watching something good on the telly (speaking of which, I remember you recommending Curb Your Enthusiasm somewhere. Thank you very much.)

If you don't have a can of beans, you can throw in a handful of pasta (might need some more water). It need not be little pasta (although that's nice) - spaghetti broken in little bits is great. You can use fresh tomatoes if you have them, but it's autumn, so cans are tops.

I would very much like you to snap whatever you make for a guest PDP post.

And Owen's sister is the General Manager at Addison Road, so I'll send her Other Andrew's link - she'll be pleased!

I was going to say "get a rabbit" but probably you should just listen to her.

Go with Zoe's soup/stew option or do a low effort slow bake /roast

just clean em all up a bit - skin spuds, peel carrot and swede / turnip and parsnips and skin onions.

Then cut into not too big chunks - say onion into 4 - others into equivelent to 2 inch square - but triangles etc or longish. Chuck into a baking tray. Drizzle with Olive oil - a fair slop - then salt - more than you think is healthy and pepper at least. Shake around a bit then set oven on say 150 for a hour - look at a shake around a few times during this hour to cover with oil etc then turn heat up for 15 minutes - to crisp up a bit - careful not to burn at this stage.

Tip onto plate and eat "Groovey Healthy Tasty Root Vegie Raost" with fork in front of TV.

You should have also really added about 10 whole garlic cloves about half way in - no need to skin. But I assumed by even asking that initial question that you didn't have stuff like that hanging around.

Tastes even better if you have something like Cajun Spice Mix (available at most supa marts in big jar) sprinkled on top prior to roasting.
